“Because He gave His life, you can change yours.”
God called Enoch to preach to a wicked people.
A people that His fierce anger was kindled against.
A people who, “from the day God created them, for MANY generations,” had gone astray.
A people who denied Him and devised murder.
A people God had prepared a Hell for if they didn’t repent. (Moses 6:28)
Who was this group of wicked people?
The people who became Zion.
This was the city of Enoch…pre Enoch.
“Prayer is the passport for spiritual power.”
Elizabeth Whitney longed for divine direction. While praying with her husband one night, they heard a voice from Heaven say, “prepare to receive the word of the Lord, for it is coming.”
So she prepared and waited.
When she heard the preaching of the restored gospel, she knew her wait was over.
But some things she saw the new Saints doing in Kirtland confused her.
“God does not begin by asking about our ability, but only our availability.”
Let’s talk about lichens, shall we?
A lichen is actually a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and an algae.
Alone, a fungus can survive.
However, it cannot photosynthesize.
But when it combines with an algae, it can.
Together, it becomes something new—a lichen.
“Let us not give up. Let us be true to our covenants.”

I was mostly a short-distance runner in high school track. But since one of my events was the 1500m, I would occasionally run with the distance team.
My least favorite practices BY FAR were when the distance coach would have us run laps without telling us the number of laps we were going to run that day.
Sometimes it was 10 or so.
Other times, it was closer to 20 laps.
I absolutely despised not knowing how many laps I was going to run.
“The Savior is never closer to you than when you are facing or climbing a mountain with faith.”
Lucy Smith was leading a group of Saints to Ohio, and they were in desperate need of help.
They had already traveled five days down the Erie Canal and were hungry, cold, and exposed.
So, when the haggard group saw they were stranded on an ice-locked harbor in Buffalo, they started to complain and argue loudly.
“Decisions determine destiny”
You know that classic story of the switchman in St. Louis who moved a piece of steel three inches and a train that originally was headed for New Jersey ended up thirteen hundred miles away in New Orleans?
I think about that story a lot. I thought of it just last night when I was lying in my comfy bed and realized I hadn’t done scripture study with my husband.
But, man, the bed was comfortable.
