“I testify that bad days will end, that faith always triumphs, and that Heavenly promises are always kept.”
Come Follow Me Daily
One night, a man went to bed in a cabin only to be woken up by the sound of falling snow. He saw trees and snow rushing towards him—a massive avalanche—then, nothing.
He came to disoriented under snow.
Complete darkness.
Cold.
Not knowing what way was up and what way was down.
In a desperate moment, he spit.
Because even when everything felt wrong, there was one thing he could count on: gravity.
When he spit, he knew which way was up.
He worked towards it and was eventually rescued.
This story reminded me of Abraham. God made a covenant with him of land and a prosperity so large he couldn’t number them.
But there he was. Without land or child.
When he questioned the Lord, God told Abraham to get certain animals, divide them in half, and line them up in two rows with a path through the center. (Gen 15)
Abraham would have recognized this covenant. In the ancient Near East, this was done during Land Grant Treaties to seal a promise. The two men would walk down the center of the animals together—a symbol of what would be done to them if they didn’t keep the oath.
But there was one critical difference between this land covenant and the one made by the Lord.
Abraham was asleep with a great darkness surrounding him and the Lord, symbolized through a burning lamp, walked the path alone.
Why? The answer is in Hebrews 6:13-15, “When God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, […]
“And so, after Abraham had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”
Meaning, Abraham could trust God above all else. Only God could walk that path alone—and He has already done it. For Abraham and for us.
Some things we can just count on.
Gravity makes objects fall downward.
An object in motion stays in motion.
And God will always keep His promises.
So if you don’t see the fulfilling of God’s promises, don’t give up.
No matter how disorienting or dark it feels, hope is not lost.
“Bad days come to an end. Faith always triumphs. And Heavenly promises are always kept.” (Elder Holland)
Even we see no way,
We must believe in a God Who is The Way.
His blessings will come in His time.
We can count on it.
